Internal Monsanto Documents Show It Knew of Predicted Damage to U.S. Farms.

Internal Monsanto Documents Show It Knew of Predicted Damage to U.S. Farms.

By Jordan Davidson,

EcoWatch, Waking Times.

April 1st 2020.

.

Documents unearthed in a lawsuit brought by a Missouri farmer who claimed that Monsanto and German chemical maker BASF’s dicamba herbicide ruined his peach orchard revealed that the two companies knew their new agricultural seed and chemical system would likely damage many U.S. farms, according to documents seen by The Guardian.
The lawsuit, which awarded the Missouri farmer $265 million, showed that Monsanto intentionally hid the risks involved in its plans and calculated how to profit off farmers worried about damage to their crops. The documents also show Monsanto’s efforts to stymie tests from third-party labs to make sure there was no data that concerned regulators.
In fact, The Guardian reports that some BASF employees joked about their company sharing “voodoo science” and hoping that they stay out of jail. The issue revealed by the documents was about dicamba and a new crop system from the two companies that addressed farmers’ growing concerns that weeds resistant to Monsanto’s glyphosate weed-killer, Roundup, were taking over croplands.
The new system allowed farmers to plant dicamba-resistant soybeans and cotton. Then farmers could spray dicamba over their fields and kill everything that had developed a resistance to glyphosate, according to The Guardian.
The documents, which date back to 2009, show that Monsanto and BASF, despite assuring regulators that their system would prevent drift to neighboring farms, were aware that their system could have catastrophic consequences, as The Guardian reported. It seems the companies were aware that farmers would likely use older versions of dicamba, which easily turns into vapor and carries away to neighboring farms that were not protected, ruining thousands of acres of crops. Dicamba is particularly volatile and likely to carry away in hot weather.
According to AgJournal, dicamba can start to vaporize and drift away three days after it has been applied.
The revelations from the successful $265 million lawsuit come amidst a deluge of complaints in several states. Regulators in Indiana, a soybean-intensive state, have been overwhelmed for the past three years by complaints that dicamba drift has ruined farmers’ profits. According to The Republic in Columbus, Indiana, “Even small amounts of dicamba hitting unintended crops can lead to a 30% to 40% yield reduction, agricultural experts said. That can mean a $180 loss per acre, or $100,000 for a medium-size farm.”
In Missouri, complaints about dicamba misuse have grown into a backlog of more than 600 cases. The Missouri Department of Agriculture had no cases of dicamba complaints in 2017, but was inundated with 595 cases by the end of 2019. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, before dicamba-resistant crops existed, approximately 231,000 pounds of the herbicide was spread every year. In 2017, Americans used more than 10 million pounds on cotton and soybean crops, as The News Tribune in Missouri reported.
The Guardian reported that Monsanto predicted this damage would happen. A 2015 document showed that Monsanto estimated that dicamba damage claims from farmers would total more than 10,000 cases, including 1,305 in 2016, 2,765 in 2017 and 3,259 in 2018.
“The documents are the worst that I’ve ever seen for any case that I’ve worked on,” said lawyer Angie Splittgerber, a former tobacco industry defense attorney, as The Guardian reported. “So many of them put things in writing that were just horrifying.”

Increased Access to Cannabis May Reduce Opioid Prescriptions.

Increased Access to Cannabis May Reduce Opioid Prescriptions.

 Written By: GreenMedInfo Research Group.

Posted March 25, 2020 by Edward Morgan.

.

Since 2013, the rate of deaths caused by drug overdoses in the U.S. has been rising, with the largest increase being in opioid drug-related deaths.[i] In 2017 alone, 47,600 drug overdose-related deaths involved opioids, a staggering 67.8% of the total overdose deaths reported that year, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has estimated that 130 Americans die daily due to opioid overdose.[ii]

As the opioid epidemic worsens, health officials and some lawmakers have turned to cannabis as a possible solution to reducing the opioid crisis.

Cannabis as an Alternative for Pain Relief

One of the most well-researched benefits of cannabis is pain relief. A report published by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine concluded, “[T]here is substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults,” and those findings aren’t new.[iii]

Medical cannabis is superior to opioids when used for chronic pain, has minimal adverse effects compared to opioids, and boasts additional positive effects on ailments such as post-traumatic stress and cancer.[iv],[v],[vi]

Given these benefits, it’s not surprising that health officials have wondered if cannabis and its pain-relieving effects could be the solution to the opioid epidemic.[vii],[viii] A report published by the Journal of Health Economics found that medicinal marijuana access laws reduced morphine milligrams prescribed each year by 4.2%.

The same study reported that similar laws for recreational cannabis reduced opioid prescriptions by 11.8% each year.[ix] Additionally, in states that have legalized cannabis use, cannabis has been linked with a reduction in other controlled substances, such as benzodiazepines (anti-anxiety drugs), over-the-counter sleep aids and other prescription drugs.[x],[xi],[xii]

Skeptics may wonder why policies to reduce opioid prescriptions aren’t a better alternative, but simply reducing access to opioids — such as through drug monitoring programs — doesn’t seem to work. Instead, opioid users may turn to more dangerous drugs with similar chemical structures and physiological impacts, like heroin, which are low cost and highly available.[xiii],[xiv]

However, researchers have discovered that increased access to cannabis allows opioid users to use cannabis for pain relief, seemingly without any significant increases in heroin or other illicit drug use.

Additional Medical Benefits of Cannabis

Beyond its potent pain-relieving capabilities, marijuana has been positively linked to the following conditions:
Epilepsy: Cannabidiol, a non-psychotropic extract of cannabis, has anti-seizure, neuroprotective and antidepressant effects. Multiple studies have found that cannabidiol is as effective as common anti-epileptic drugs, and may be a safer alternative especially in the treatment of epileptic infants, children and teenagers or drug-resistant epileptic patients.[xv],[xvi]
Inflammation: Cannabinoids have been shown to reduce inflammation and help regulate the immune system, making cannabinoid a possible treatment for chronic and acute inflammation.[xvii],[xviii]
Multiple sclerosis (MS): A growing body of evidence has shown that cannabis and its compounds could effectively reduce symptoms of multiple sclerosis, other neurologic disorders and spinal cord related injuries.[xix],[xx] In addition to mitigating symptoms, some studies have indicated that cannabis could reduce the progression of MS.[xxi]

Given the positive effects, safety profile and low risk of addiction, cannabis remains a strong candidate in the continuing fight against opioid overuse and addiction. The Latest Insights on Gut Permeability and Depression

By Kelly Brogan, M.D.

Green Med Info, Wake Up World.

Posted November 27, 2019 by Wes Annac.

If you know what depression feels like – the brain clouding, the flat moods, the tiredness – you’re not alone. Over 300 million people around the world have depression, and yet there’s a lot that we still don’t quite understand.1

Thankfully, the medical field is developing some new insights that just might help us understand depression better. In a new 2019 study, researchers decided to examine the potential mechanisms of major depressive disorder in teenage girls and found some evidence that could help us better understand exactly how gut permeability (leaky gut) can lead to inflammation, which in turn, leads to depression.

New Insight into Leaky Gut and Depression

In this 2019 study, Baylor College of Medicine researchers are directly looking at gut permeability and major depressive disorder, a study that is the first of its kind.2

With a sample of forty-one 12-17 year-old teenage girls who were medically healthy, the study measured the severity of the girls’ depressive symptoms, the activity of the autonomic nervous system, intestinal permeability, or gut leakiness, and the number of inflammatory cytokines.

To measure whether the girls were depressed, an interviewer performed the Children’s Depression Rating Scale-Revised (CDRS-R) and a clinical interview. The CDRS-R is a rating scale that requires interviews of both child and parent to understand the severity of a child’s depression. Over the past few decades, the CDRS-R has become the most widely used rating scale for assessing severity and change in depression for clinical trials involving children and adolescents.3 In order to collect data on the autonomic nervous system activity, researchers measured pre-ejection period (PEP) and respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) data, which are indicators for the activity levels of the sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system respectively. They measured the leakiness of the gut using the lactulose-mannitol ratio (LMR), which involves having the teens first fast overnight and then ingesting a premeasured amount of lactulose and mannitol. The researchers then collected the urine for four hours after ingestion. By looking at the ratio of lactulose and mannitol that passed through the gut lining, researchers could calculate the permeability of the gut lining, or how “leaky” it was. To measure inflammation, the researchers took blood samples and measured inflammatory cytokines.

They found that in unmedicated teenage girls between the ages of 14-17, depression severity was associated with increased intestinal permeability, as measured by the lactulose to mannitol ratio. The leakier the gut, they found, the more severe the depression and depressive symptoms. They saw that the higher the concentration of the cytokine IL-1β, the more severe the depression. They also found that increased intestinal permeability may be the path between sympathetic nervous system activation and depression severity. Additionally, their evidence suggested that increased intestinal permeability may activate the innate immune system and push the development of depression.

The result of this study also helps clarify the mechanisms through which activating the sympathetic nervous system can increase gut permeability and activate the innate immune system–two things that are likely contributing to depression symptoms.

The Brain, The Gut, and the Immune System

If you’re wondering why intestinal permeability is related to depression, let’s back up and walk through the whole pipeline.

We start with the immune system. Throughout the last century, psychiatry has been exploring the role of the immune system in certain presentations of depression. Importantly, the gut houses over 70% of our immune system, which makes sense given that the lining of your gut is the barrier between your insides and the outside world. The gastrointestinal epithelium usually forms a single-cell-thick barrier that prevents the free movement of toxicants, microbes, and microbial antigens from entering into the rest of your body. This lining usually does a good job absorbing things we need (like food) and interfacing with foreign things that might wreak havoc–which is probably why most of our immune cells are located in the gut.4 The relationship between the gut and the brain is both complex and important. We’ve all felt the butterflies in our stomachs when we’re nervous or anxious, but it turns out that the relationship between the brain and the gut is actually bidirectional. Not only can our brains affect how our guts feel, but our gut can relay its state of calm or alarm to the nervous system and send those immune reactions up the vagus nerve to the brain.

To understand how the gut and depression are related, we should first better comprehend the triggers for inflammation, what inflammation is, and how it happens.

Stress Drives Inflammation

So what IS inflammation in the first place? Inflammation is the body’s defensive response to stresses, like injury or the ingestion of bodily-incompatible chemicals. Upon approaching a stressor, the immune system kicks into a higher gear to heal the body.

Stress is a catch-all term, a trigger that links hormones to inflammation. Essentially, when the body thinks something is wrong, the body releases hormones that tell the body to be on the lookout and get on defense, and inflammation occurs. These triggers can come in all forms, many of which are actually staples of modern American life, from sugar to stress to pesticides and pollution to anxiety to beyond. Whether psychological or physiological, stress drives the inflammation response by telling the brain to release cortisol, the steroid hormone that acts as nature’s built-in alarm system and makes it for our bodies to use blood sugar for energy so that we can flee from whatever is causing the stress.5

Once inflammation is started, not only does inflammation cause more inflammation, but recent studies have linked low-grade inflammation to depression. When inflammation reaches the brain, cells begin to take their limited supply of tryptophan to produce more anxiety-provoking chemicals like quinolinate.6 Medical literature has found that inflammation seems to be a consistent marker of depressive symptoms, like flat mood, slowed thinking, avoidance, alterations in perception, and metabolic changes.

How does inflammation get provoked in the gut?

So let’s understand how exactly a leaky gut can lead to inflammation – the body’s language of imbalance.

When the body is stressed, the junctions between cells in the stomach can be less effective than they should be.7 This allows bacteria and toxicants to enter the bloodstream that can continue to cause widespread inflammation and possibly trigger a far-reaching reaction from the immune system.8 Having leaky gut cause inflammation sets off a problematic chain of events because the gut has a direct link to the brain through the vagus nerve.9

The medical field has been slowly inching up on a fuller understanding of the link between intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”) and depression. Previous studies focusing on depression and have found the chemical hints of leaky gut. For example, one study showed that patients with a recent suicide attempt had higher concentrations of an anti-lipopolysaccharides (LPS) antibody, meaning that the immune system had either encountered more of or reacted defensively against LPS, which is a molecule that marks microbe-associated patterns in the body.10 In another study, compared to healthy controls, adults with depressive or anxiety disorders, who didn’t have any symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders, still had higher concentrations of fatty acid-binding protein-2, which is produced to signify impaired intestinal epithelium integrity.11 These studies, and the first study we discussed in this post, suggest that intestinal permeability may be impaired in depression.

So What Do We Do?

All of this sounds kind of complicated, but really, this approach to depression-seeing it as a symptom that results in unhealthy inflammatory balance-means that we might be able to do more about it. It means that depression isn’t happening because of genetics or not enough serotonin. Instead, you’re probably experiencing low-grade inflammation that’s happening because your gut is stressed and leaky. The goal is to send your system a signal of safety – from the gut, from the mind, or by lessening perceived stressors and burdens through detox.

Since 2001 USA Have Spent $32 Million Per Hour on War ~ Stephanie Savell

Since 2001 We Have Spent $32 Million Per Hour on War.

By Stephanie Savell, Other WordsWaking Times.

2019/04/29.

.

This March marked the 16th anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.
In 2003, President George W. Bush and his advisers based their case for war on the idea that Saddam Hussein, then dictator of Iraq, possessed weapons of mass destruction — weapons that have never been found. Nevertheless, all these years later, Bush’s “Global War on Terror” continues — in Iraq and in many other countries.
It’s a good time to reflect on what this war — the longest in U.S. history — has cost Americans and others around the world.
First, the economic costs: According to estimates by the Costs of War project at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, the war on terror has cost Americans a staggering $5.6 trillion since 2001, when the U.S. invaded Afghanistan.
$5.6 trillion. This figure includes not just the Pentagon’s war fund, but also future obligations such as social services for an ever-growing number of post-9/11 veterans.
It’s hard for most of us to even begin to grasp such an enormous number.
It means Americans spend $32 million per hour, according to a counter by the National Priorities Project at the Institute for Policy Studies.
Put another way: Since 2001, every American taxpayer has spent almost $24,000 on the wars — equal to the average down payment on a house, a new Honda Accord, or a year at a public university.

(Cartoon: Khalil Bendib / OtherWords.org)
As stupefying as those numbers are, the budgetary costs pale in comparison with the human toll.
As of 2015, when the Costs of War project made its latest tallies, up to 165,000 Iraqi civilians had died as a direct consequence of U.S. war, plus around 8,000 U.S. soldiers and military contractors in Iraq.
Those numbers have only continued to rise. Up to 6,000 civilians were killed by U.S.-led strikes in Iraq and Syria in 2017 –– more civilians than in any previous year, according to the watchdog group AirWars.
In addition to those direct deaths, at least four times as many people in Iraq have died from the side effects of war, such as malnutrition, environmental degradation, and deteriorated infrastructure.
Since the 2003 invasion, for instance, Iraqi health care has plummeted — with hospitals and clinics bombed, supplies of medicine and electricity jeopardized, and thousands of physicians and healthcare workers fleeing the country.
Meanwhile, the war continues to spread, no longer limited to Afghanistan, Iraq, or Syria, as many Americans think. Indeed, the U.S. military is escalating a shadowy network of anti-terror operations all across the world — in at least 76 nations, or 40 percent of countries on the planet.
Last October, news about four Green Berets killed by an Islamic State affiliate in the West African nation of Niger gave Americans a glimpse of just how broad this network is. And along with it comes all the devastating consequences of militarism for the people of these countries.
We must ask: Are these astounding costs worth it? Is the U.S. accomplishing anything close to its goal of diminishing the global terrorist threat?
The answer is, resoundingly, no.
U.S. activity in Iraq and the Middle East has only spurred greater political upheaval and unrest. The U.S.-led coalition is seen not as a liberating force, but as an aggressor. This has fomented insurgent recruitment, and there are now more terrorist groups in the Middle East than ever before.
Until a broad swath of the American public gets engaged to call for an end to the war on terror, these mushrooming costs — economic, human, social, and political — will just continue to grow.

The CBD Secret: What Big Pharma Doesn’t Want You to Know About CBD Oil ~ Sofia Adamson

The CBD Secret:

What Big Pharma Doesn’t Want You to Know About CBD Oil.

By Sofia AdamsonWaking Times.

April 15, 2019.

The pharmaceutical industry has a reputation for being corrupt and putting their financial interests above all else.
They push drugs that cause more harm than good, bribe doctors to administer their prescriptions, and bury any evidence that may damage the public perception of their products.
Big pharma has proven time and time again that they are only interested in making money—nothing else.
This is why they have worked relentlessly to hide powerful natural remedies from the public. If everyone starts using natural remedies instead of prescriptions, pharmaceutical companies will lose billions of dollars in revenue.
By far one of the biggest threats to the pharmaceutical industry is CBD oil, a compound that is naturally extracted from hemp.
Big Pharma does not want you to know about CBD oil because it has a wide range of therapeutic benefits that can replace several different highly profitable drugs.
Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Over-the-counter drugs that alleviate pain like Ibuprofen, Aspirin, and Aleve, are one of the biggest cash-cows for big pharma with a net worth of over $130 billion.
These pain-killing drugs, also called NSAIDs, dull pain by temporarily soothing inflammation in the body. They work exceptionally well at modulating pain, but they come with a concerning list of negative side effects. This includes stomach ulcers, heartburn, and liver problems. Additionally, extended NSAID use has even been linked to an increased risk of heart failure.
CBD oil, on the other hand, is scientifically proven to provide substantial relief from pain and discomfort all without the nasty side effects that come with taking NSAIDs.

This is why people all over the world are beginning to use CBD oil for headaches, back pain, muscle soreness, and general pain.

Anti-Anxiety Drugs

Drugs that are designed to help anxiety are another immense money maker for the pharmaceutical industry.
The problem is, these drugs produce mixed results. Some people experience relief, whereas others continue to struggle with their inner demons.
Even if they do work, many people end up ditching their prescription due to the unpleasant side effects, including weight gain, increased heart rate, headaches, suicidal thoughts, dry mouth, increased blood pressure, and sexual dysfunction.
The good news is, research shows that CBD oil is tremendously effective for treating anxiety—all without the dangerous side effects that come with popular anti-anxiety medications.
One study published in the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry, for example, found that CBD oil had a powerful therapeutic effect on several conditions related to anxiety including post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and social anxiety

Sleeping Pill

Do you often struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep throughout the night?
If so, you are certainly not alone. Surveys have found that over 70% of Americans are not able to get enough quality sleep.
This epidemic of sleep deprivation has forced many people to find solace in pharmaceutical sleeping pills—be it over-the-counter or through a prescription. Like the other drugs mentioned, sleeping pills come with a frightening list of side effects and can be extremely addicting.
Thanks to the marketing tactics of big pharma, most people are completely unaware that CBD oil is a safer alternative for improving your sleep without creating an addiction.
Numerous studies have shown that CBD oil can specifically help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. In fact, CBD oil is so effective at improving your sleep that some scientists propose it could be used for the treatment of insomnia.

Taking the Right CBD Oil

If you decide to give CBD oil a try, it is absolutely essential that you pick out a high-quality product. Otherwise, you risk wasting your hard-earned money on a CBD oil that simply does not work.
We recommend the full spectrum, CBD-rich hemp oil from Touchstone Essentials. It is nano-emulsified for superior absorbability, 100% organic and free of pesticides, and contains a premium dose of CBD.
If you are serious about getting the benefits of CBD, hemp oil from Touchstone Essentials may be worth a try.

Patients Are Dumping Benzodiazepines in Favor of Cannabis to Treat Anxiety ~ Alex Pietrowski, Waking Times.

Patients Are Dumping Benzodiazepines in Favor of Cannabis to Treat Anxiety.

By Alex PietrowskiWaking Times.

February 12, 2019.

Along with the opioid epidemic, we are in the midst of a benzodiazepine epidemic. This class of prescription drugs, which includes the extremely popular drug xanax, is primarily prescribed for anxiety, but is exceptionally prone to abuse, addiction, and were involved in almost 12,000 deaths a year.
“These are highly addictive and potentially lethal drugs, and many people don’t know that,” lead author Dr. Anna Lembke of the Stanford University School of Medicine said. “Sadly, most physicians are also unaware of this and blithely prescribe them without educating their patients about the risk of addiction.” [Source]
The public is waking up to the fact that pharmaceutical remedies are often very dangerous and can have serious side effects, while at the same to also waking up to the fact that cannabis is an exceptionally powerful healing medicine with nearly no harmful side effects whatsoever.
In the last couple of years as cannabis has become more mainstream and is further legalized, an exodus from pharmaceuticals has begun, and many people who need pain medication are dumping the opioids and pain pills in favor of cannabis.
Now, a couple of Canadian research studies indicate that people are also beginning to dump benzodiazepines and instead use cannabis and cannabis-derived medicines to alleviate anxiety.
As noted by Paul Armentano of NORML:
In the first study, Canadian researchers assessed the relationship between cannabis and benzodiazepines in a cohort of 146 patients enrolled in the nation’s medical marijuana access program. They reported that 30 percent of participants discontinued their use of anti-anxiety medications within two-months of initiating cannabis therapy, and that 45 percent did so by six-months. “Patients initiated on medical cannabis therapy showed significant benzodiazepine discontinuation rates after their first follow-up visit to their medical cannabis prescriber, and continued to show significant discontinuation rates thereafter,” authors concluded.
In the second study, investigators at the University of Michigan surveyed over 1,300 state-registered medical cannabis patients with regard to their use of opioids and benzodiazepines. They reported that 53 percent of respondents acknowledged substituting marijuana for opioids, and 22 percent did so for benzodiazepines.

This definitely follows the greater trend of patients seeking medical marijuana as a safe, natural, effective, and enjoyable alternative to pills, which is alarming to the pharmaceutical industry. Already, companies in the agribusiness sector are developing patents for cannabis related products, and it is feared that Monsanto, a la Bayer, is interested in being the future of this emerging market.
A report issued in 2018 quantified the potential losses to the pharmaceutical industry should they be unable to capitalize and seize a significant portion of market share of medical cannabis.
“It seems the pharmaceutical trade has more than enough reasons to fear the legalization of marijuana, as an analysis conducted by the folks at New Frontier Data predicts the legal use of cannabis products for ailments ranging from chronic pain to seizures could cost marketers of modern medicine somewhere around $4 billion per year.” [Source]
Patents related to cannabis and cannabis products are increasingly being filed with the U.S. Patent Office, both large companies and smaller ventures. In a recent article on this topic, Forbes magazine answered the question of whether or not cannabis can be patented:
“Yes, this is presently a small area of activity, but may also represent opportunity. Plants can be patented in two ways, by way of “utility patents” (like 95% of all patents) or by way of a separate “plant patent” category. Utility patents are much stronger; plant patents are narrowly focused on a single “parent” plant and its direct descendants. By my count, there are currently only 5 US plant patent cases (4 pending applications, 1 issued patent), and 11 utility plant-directed patent cases (8 pending applications, 3 issued patents). Two companies are currently the main players in plants: the plant-focused Biotechnology Institute (Los Angeles CA) has 3 issued patents as well as 2 pending applications, and GW Pharmaceuticals (UK) has two plant-focused applications. GW is notable for having the largest cannabis-directed portfolio (80+ US cases) of all companies in the space, and is particularly focused on methods of treating diseases.” [Source]
The full text of the study,“Reduction of benzodiazepine use in patients prescribed medical cannabis,” appears in the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research here, and an abstract of the study“Pills to pot: Observational analyses of cannabis substitution among medical cannabis users with chronic pain,” appears in The Journal of Pain here.

Space Billboards are Coming to a Night Sky Near You ~ Vic Bishop.

Space Billboards are Coming to a Night Sky Near You.

By Vic Bishop, Waking Times.

January 22, 2019.

.

Forget the arms race for a moment and consider what technology companies are doing to participate in the emerging space economy. From space tours to the implementation of 5G satellites, the final frontier for capitalism is outer space. So, naturally, tech companies are finding new ways to make space-related services valuable to the earth economy, and one of these schemes is selling ad space in the sky.
Can you imagine looking up in the night sky to see a McDonald’s ad floating in light amongst the stars?
Russian marketing company is supposedly working on the development of networkable, illuminating satellite arrays that could coordinate in the upper atmosphere to create words and logos in the sky.
“The plan, as demonstrated in a StartRocket video (above), is to use the satellites to light up different messages for up to six minutes at a time, with the constellation located between 250 and 310 miles above Earth. The video shows the satellites getting into formation to spell out the word “Hello.” Next up is an upside-down McDonald’s logo floating through the night sky, and then a message from KFC tempting us with its greasy goodies.” [Source]

Whether or not this company is a joke and this story is really just a marketing game remains to be seen, but never the less, we do have the technology to do this, and at some point in the future it will happen. Therefore, it’s important to call out the mindset that would strive for and actually unleash something like this onto the psyches of everyone below. Here’s a few choice quotes from the company’s website, starting with a choice one by Andy Warhol..
The dream
Andy Warhol said: “The most beautiful thing in Tokyo is McDonald’s. The most beautiful thing in Stockholm is McDonald’s. The most beautiful thing in Florence is McDonald’s. Peking and Moscow don’t have anything beautiful yet.
Space has to be beautiful. With the best brands our sky will amaze us every night.
No ugly place there after this. [Source[

Here’s the alleged timeline for this project. Of articular note is the ‘seeking funding’ stage, which is really what stuff like this is all about: people having to come up with evermore clever ideas to make money in a culture driven by debt-based fiat currency and the ideals of success and happiness being inextricably linked to making money.
May 2018 — Start
June – August 2018 — Working out the technical solution. Contract with Skoltech.
October 2018 — Testing the technical solution of display on stratospheric balloons with Skoltech. Patenting process. Search for sponsors of the first launch.
January 2019 — Roadshow for anchor investors. Building engineer and managing teams. Developing MVP and the formation control system.

Here’s a marketing video for the scheme.
Final Thoughts
So, what do you think of the idea of seeing the night sky polluted with tons of ads and propaganda? What effect do you think this would have on the human psyche, which looks to the heavens for solace, escape and inspiration?
