What Is Etheric Body and How to Clear and Strengthen It.

Your etheric body plays an important role in how you feel and how you think. Your physical wellbeing and mental health are closely connected, and both rely heavily on the health and strength of your etheric body.
 
If it is weakened, then you probably aren’t feeling so great either. Spending a little time taking care of your etheric body by clearing and strengthening it could make a lifetime of difference.
 
What Is Etheric Body?
 
Aura
 
An aura is an electromagnetic energy field that surrounds us all. From humans to animals and even objects, everything has an aura of some sort.
 
The aura is what gives us that “vibe” we get from other people. When, without getting to know someone first, you just have “a feeling” about them, you’re actually reading their aura.
 
Some people, animals or things could have a negative aura or a positive aura. If you’re tuned into noticing it, you’re the type of person who can get a good feel for someone’s personality from just one conversation.
 
Layers of The Aura
 
Every aura is made up of 7 layers, each one with its own purpose and impact.
 
The innermost layer is your physical body and less than an inch outside of it is the etheric layer, the densest layer. Following the etheric layer is the emotional layer, mental layer, spiritual or etheric temple layer, the celestial body and finally the ketheric body.
 
These layers are also known as the subtle bodies and each one is connected to a corresponding chakra.
 
Etheric Body
 
The etheric body is the physical plane of the aura. Due to its close proximity, it is deeply connected to your physical body. It has ties to your physical health, all your bodily sensations, including pain and pleasure.
 
It is linked with the root chakra, which among other things, is associated with our basic human needs. The etheric body is considered to be responsible for sensations of hot and cold, and even hunger and thirst. Our physical bodies and etheric bodies are so closely connected that sometimes the etheric body is called a metaphysical twin.
 
Some spiritualists believe that each part of the physical body has an equal replica within the etheric layer, including all of the organs. Even if one is removed, the etheric version still exists to protect us.
 
The 5 senses are also the responsibility of the etheric body. It is the medium through which we experience the world. It receives the energies of the world around us and this affects our own energy.
 
The etheric body delivers energy to your physical body, be it positive or negative. Similarly, the physical body’s experiences affect your etheric body and the kind of energy it provides. The relationship is cyclical, if you do not take care of one, the other will suffer too, and the cycle will continue.
 
The emotional and mental layers are connected to the etheric layer too. This gives more meaning to the theory that our emotions and mental health deeply impact how our bodies feel.
 
Clearing the Etheric Body
 
Sometimes, the etheric body can become blocked and its functions will suffer for it. The connection between the etheric and the physical bodies is so deep that these blockages can heavily impact how we feel, some even suggest that our health is at risk.
 
If you haven’t been maintaining and improving your etheric body, then you might need to consider clearing before you can move on.
 
Blockages can be caused by anything that would typically harm the physical body. This could include a poor diet, lack of sleep, poor air quality and of course, stress. A lack of exercise will also lead to blockages as exercise is considered to be energetically cleansing.
 
Blockages can also be caused by the kind of energy your etheric body takes in. If you spend time in negative places with negative people, you’re going to pick that up too. Anxious thoughts have very low vibrations. The lower the vibration, the more blocking it is.
 
You can clear your etheric body by detoxing from the typical challenges to your physical health but be aware that a detox can lead to mental stress.
 
The best ways to clear your etheric body involve meditation and full-body scans. Whilst you meditate, take each body part in turn and visualize letting go of negativity. You can also visualize your aura becoming clearer.
 
Strengthening the Etheric Body
 
A strong etheric body is better able to withstand negative influences and remain positive. When your etheric layer is strong, your physical body is too. Just like strengthening the physical body, the best way to add strength to the etheric body is to stay on top of your health.
 
Make sure your diet is varied and healthy. Exercise regularly, in a way that makes you happy. Breathe fresh air. Most importantly, make sure your anxieties and stress are under control. If anxiety is the lowest liberating influence, you want as little of it as possible (easier said than done!).
 
Strengthen your etheric layer by accessing all sorts of natural energies. Energy from nature is naturally strengthening and the more different kinds of energy you expose your etheric body to, the better prepared it’ll be to protect you.
 
Your etheric body is valuable and should be cared for, just as it cares for you. Consider it a protective cushion that surrounds you. Build it strong, and it will keep you safe.

The mind-body problem is one of the most famous issues within philosophical discussion. It has been a point of argument and deep interest for philosophers throughout history. The mind-body problem was addressed by Buddhism and the ancient Greeks, all the way through to Rene Descartes and beyond.
 
But why is this a matter of interest and why is it important? Here we will look at the answers to these questions, how it can make us think deeper about our existence, but also how this issue concerns us on a more personal level. However, firstly we must understand what the mind-body problem is.
 
What is the mind-body problem?
 
The fundamental premise of this problem is the idea of whether the mind and body are two separate entities, or whether they are the same and interconnected in some way. Should we treat them as the same thing or is one in charge of the other? More generally, it is the discussion between the relationship of the mind and the body, or the affiliation between mental attributes and physical attributes.
 
This, in turn, leads to many other questions that build on this issue. These questions are an integral part of philosophical discussion and concerns about our existence.
 
For example, what is the self and how is it related to the mind and the body? Are our bodies just housing our minds? What does it mean for a body to belong to a certain subject? Do mental states affect physical states and vice versa? Is our being composed of mental facets and physical facets, or are we just consciousness and nothing else?
 
As you can see, the mind-body problem isn’t a simple matter. No wonder philosophers have grappled with it throughout history. Many strands of thought and theories have tried to make sense of the relationship between the mind and the body. They each give their take on it.
 
Hence, there are many different ideas about what makes up our existence as a whole. Two approaches are the most common among those: Dualism and Monism.
 
Dualism and Monism
 
The main difference between these two theoretical approaches to the mind-body problem is that dualism holds a clear distinction between the two – between mental and the physical, between the immaterial and the material. At the same time, monism holds the idea that there is only one single reality to which everything can be explained – the two are indistinguishable, they are one entity.
 
But what does this mean? It will help to look at each idea in more detail:
 
Dualism
 
We can understand dualism when recognising humans being made up of two different parts: one nonphysical (the mind) and one physical (the body/brain). These two things exist separately. They are not one whole subject.
 
 
The theory posits that both the mental and physical realms exist. However, they cannot be integrated. They are two separate cogs in a machine. They can work together but nevertheless are two distinguishable, individual entities. Rene Descartes is among the most well-known to believe in such a position through what is called Cartesian dualism (but that’s for another time).
 
This is easy enough to understand. We can often recognise that our minds can act differently to our bodies.
 
This could be in an obvious sense where our bodies may be frail in old age, but our minds are still as sharp as they were many years ago. Our bodies may become ill, by no fault of our own, but our minds may be still healthy (and vice versa). Our body has its system that works on its own; it is involuntary, whereas our mind can initiate voluntary actions.
 
You get the idea. This hopefully demonstrates what the essence of dualism is. It is perhaps more concrete and black and white than its counterpart though, and it’s easy to see why.
 
Monism
 
Monism takes the opposite perspective. It tries to refute the existence and distinction of these two separate entities and treats them as one phenomenon. It is a concept of singleness. Mind and matter are not two different states; they are both part of one overriding form.
 
We can see this through two types of monism: materialism and idealism. Materialism expresses the belief that nothing exists except the physical world. This means nothing exists apart from physical matter (in this case the brain and the body). This also considers consciousness as simply something that the brain does (an action or a function).
 
Idealism says that nothing exists apart from the nonphysical world. Physical objects are derivable and are just a product of our mental capacities. Perhaps the most famous advocate of this is the philosopher George Berkley (or Bishop Berkley). He argued that everything we perceive in the physical world, including our bodies, is just a projection of our mind.
 
 
The distinction is clear enough. Either our minds and bodies are two separate things that act independently from one another, or they co-exist together in some capacity in one single entity(e.g. consciousness, if taking the monist stance). This demonstrates how varied philosophical thought is when arguing about the mind-body problem.
 
However, for those of us who aren’t philosophers, it perhaps isn’t the point to advocate a particular position or choose a certain side when considering this issue. Rather we should use it as a means to help us engage with philosophy and help us think about our existence on a deeper level.
 
Why is the mind-body problem important?
 
You might wonder what the importance of such an ambiguous concept might be, or what use it is to us to even ponder on a matter like this. It can do two things for us: help us generate discussion about our existence on a general level and can also affect how we judge ourselves on a personal level.
 
The mind-body problem can engage us with the most deeply held concerns within philosophy about what the nature of our existence is. Are we physical beings inhabiting a physical world? Or, do we exist on a mental level where our minds are the only true entities and everything else is just a projection of our consciousness?
 
This all may seem broad and convoluted. But at its root, it is a major pathway to trying to understand the reality and our place in it. Encouraging this endeavour can only be a positive thing for society and us.
 
Viewing this issue on a personal level can also put a different spin on the subject.
 
One of the major enigmas we face in life is the struggle to understand or handle the conflict between our minds and our bodies. Perhaps how people view us on the outside, by our appearance and our projected character, is starkly different from how we may feel inside our mind.
 
The way we look or how others perceive us may sadly and unwantedly become engrained in our identity. However, we are still unsettled in our psyche when we know this not to be true.
 
Should we view our minds and bodies as part of the same parcel? Or is it healthier to have the awareness that what is depicted in someone’s exterior may be false, with the true nature of our being lying in our minds and our thoughts?
 
These ideas are less of a theoretical approach to the issue and more of an emotional angle that concerns our well-being. Nevertheless, it just demonstrates further the different ways we can consider the mind-body problem. In whatever way or capacity we choose to do so, it can only be for the betterment and benefit of ourselves.

The human brain is incredibly complex. Neuroscientists are still uncovering hidden depths to this intriguing organ. and there is still a lot that we don’t know about it. However, what we do know about the brain, and the part of it that deals with recognizing and controlling your body’s reaction to emotions is incredibly fascinating.
 
In this post, we look at our brain and emotions and what different reactions occur in our heads when we feel anger, fear or love.
 
Why do we have emotions?
 
When it comes to discussing the way our brain processes emotions, a helpful starting point is looking at why we have emotions in the first place. Essentially, emotions help us to survive and exist thanks to evolution. They act as triggers to help us to react to situations that may cause us harm.
 
Feeling anger triggers a response of being ready to fight. When we feel fear, we try to get ourselves out of the situation we’re in. On the other hand, feeling happiness can motivate us to pursue the activity that made us feel like that.
 
Which area of the brain controls emotions?
 
The main area of the brain that is involved with emotions is called the limbic system. It is also responsible for our memories and arousal. All parts of the limbic system are connected through a variety of neural pathways. This part of the brain is what enables us to react to situations when we feel a certain way.
 
The limbic system, therefore, is the part of the brain that is thought to control our emotions and the brain functions that coincide with them. It is said to consist of four main parts:
  • Hypothalamus: this part of the limbic system is responsible for regulating our body temperature, releasing hormones, and plays a key part in our emotions and our sex drive.
  • Amygdala: the amygdala is what helps us to respond to emotions including anger, fear, sadness in order to protect us. The amygdala also retains memories of emotions experienced and when they occurred. This helps us to prepare when similar experiences happen in the future.
  • Thalamus: the thalamus is where we detect and respond to our senses and is linked with the cerebrum which is where thinking and movement are triggered.
  • Hippocampus: the hippocampus plays a key part in our retention and retrieval of memories.
 
Which part of the brain controls fear?
 
The emotion of fear is an evolutionary response that helps us to survive. While most of us are no longer living in the wild we still need to feel fear to keep ourselves safe. Fear triggers a chain reaction and involves multiple parts of the brain.
 
First of all, your thalamus uses sensory data to pick up on what you are witnessing/experiencing. This then passes through the sensory cortex which interprets the data and your hippocampus draws on memories to establish the context and how the body needs to react. Your amygdala then decodes these emotions and establishes whether a threat has occurred, this then stimulates the hypothalamus.
 
The hypothalamus then triggers what many of us know as the ‘fight or flight’ response. When you feel fear, you will often find that you have a physical reaction. This could be your hair standing on end and your heart pumping in your chest. This is triggered by the hypothalamus and gets you ready to react.
 
Which part of the brain controls anger?
 
When it comes to anger and the brain, the process is not dissimilar to that of fear. In fact, the fight or flight response triggered by the hypothalamus is what causes us to be angry and can be our response to feeling fear.
 
 
The thalamus recognizes the potential threat, your amygdala produces your emotional response and stimulates the hypothalamus which initiates your physical response. It is also thought that the prefrontal cortex can impact our ability to regulate anger and put the brakes on when we feel ourselves getting fired up.
 
Which part of the brain controls love?
 
While love is a favorable emotion to feel, we can all admit that it is accompanied by some pretty unpleasant emotions. Nerves and excitement are both physical responses we feel when we see someone we love. These are triggered by the hypothalamus, which releases a mixture of hormones that are associated with the reward circuit. These produce reactions such as sweaty hands, pink cheeks, a racing heart, as well as feelings of anxiety and passion.
 
When we are in love, our brain also produces the chemical dopamine. This is what makes love a desirable experience. The other hormones our brain produces when we experience romantic love are oxytocin (triggered by skin-to-skin contact), which encourages attachment and vasopressin, which is connected with social bonding.
 
Oxytocin is known as the ‘love hormone’ as it triggers feelings of security, calmness, and contentment that help us to feel connected with a potential mate.
 
Emotional processing is a complex field. How our brain deals with emotions is far beyond the scope of this article. The incredibly complicated chemical processes that are occurring in your brain when you experience certain emotions are fascinating.
 
It can help you to understand why your body reacts in a certain way. As well as how our emotions are trying to protect us. We hope we’ve whetted your appetite and that this marks the beginning of a fascination with neuroscience!

When a person says ‘I feel your pain,’ you take it to mean emotionally, not physically. But people that suffer from mirror-touch synesthesia feel exactly that; other people’s physical pain.
What Is Mirror-Touch Synesthesia?
 
The Condition of Synesthesia
 
Before we discuss this strange condition, let’s get some background on the basics of synesthesia.
 
The word ‘synesthesia’ comes from Greek and means ‘joined perception’. It’s a condition whereby one sense, such as seeing or hearing, triggers another overlapping sense. People with synesthesia are able to perceive the world through multiple senses.
 
For instance, those with synesthesia experience seeing music as colourful swirls. Or they might associate letters or numbers with different colours. Smells are linked to colours or sounds.
 
Mirror-Touch Synesthesia
 
It is a condition whereby the sufferer feels the sensations another person is experiencing. It’s called mirror-touch because the feelings occur on the opposite side of the body; as if you’re looking in a mirror.
 
For example, if I were to stroke the palm of my left hand, a sensation would occur on the sufferer’s right palm. Sights and sounds trigger feelings that can be painful or pleasurable.
 
Mirror-touch synesthesia is incredibly rare. It occurs in just 2% of the world’s population. Experts have described it as ‘an extreme form of empathy’. This is because the sufferer feels exactly what the other person is experiencing on and in their own body.
 
Meet Dr. Joel Salinas – the doctor who can feel your pain
 
One person that knows all about mirror-touch synesthesia is Dr. Joel Salinas. This doctor is a Harvard neurologist and a clinical researcher at Massachusetts University. He comes into contact with sick and ailing patients on a daily basis. But it’s not just their pain and discomfort he feels.
 
Dr. Salinas describes the pressure on the bridge of his nose as he watches someone walk past wearing glasses. The sensation of vinyl against the backs of his legs as he glances at a woman seated on a plastic chair in the waiting room. How her hat fits snugly around his head. The way his hip automatically contracts to mimic a volunteer shifting from one leg to another while taking a break from pushing a wheelchair.

What Causes Mirror-Touch Synesthesia?
 
Experts believe it’s all to do with neurons and the part of our brain which is responsible for forward-thinking and planning. For instance, I look at my coffee and want to drink some of it. The neurons in my premotor cortex spring into action. This prompts me to reach out and take the cup.
 
Scientists in Italy discovered something interesting whilst researching macaque monkeys and neurons in the premotor cortex. They noticed high activity in this part of the brain when the monkeys reached to take an object, but also when they observed another monkey reaching out for an object. They called these particular neurons ‘mirror-touch’ neurons.
 
I find this all pretty incredible; it’s almost like a superpower built into our brains. But more importantly, it suggests a deeper connection between us.
 
What’s It Like to Experience This Type of Synesthesia?
 
People with mirror-touch synesthesia can have very different experiences. For some, it can be incredibly intense and disturbing. In fact, it’s not uncommon to hear this condition described as: “shocking electricity – like bolts of fire.”
 
One woman referred to a particularly distressing incident as: “It was a moment of trauma for me.” Another talks about his partner and how exhausted she felt on a daily basis: “Sometimes after being out in the world with everyone else’s feelings pulsing through her body, she’d come home and just pass out.”
 
Of course, we cannot forget there are also good feelings as well as bad. Moreover, some people with this condition seem able to focus on positive experiences.
 
One woman talks about the sense of freedom she goes through: “When I watch a bird in the sky, I feel like I’m flying. That’s a joy.” Another recalls the pleasure he senses: “When I see people hug, I feel like my body is getting hugged.”
 
Is Mirror-Touch Synesthesia a More Extreme Form of Empathy?
 
For some people, having this condition could be seen as a benefit. Certainly in Dr. Salinas’ view, it is.
 
“It is up to me to reason through that experience so that I can then respond to my patients from a truer, more enduring place of compassion and kindness. Or, I can respond with whatever else is needed: Sometimes that means prescribing a medication.” Dr. Salinas
 
However, anyone with empathic traits will know just how exhausting it can be. Putting yourself in another’s person’s situation and feeling their emotions is physically draining in its self. Regardless of actually physically experiencing pain or discomfort, empaths have a hard enough time as it is.
 
Final Thoughts
 
Dr. Salinas believes there are good reasons for some of us to be able to feel what others feel. And it’s all about curiosity and understanding another person.
 
“Being curious about where another human being is coming from, and wondering why they might think, feel, or do what they do.”
 
Because it’s the fear of the unknown that can lead to prejudice, radicalisation, stereotyping minority groups and hate crimes. Surely, the more we know about a person, the better for all of society.

Do Binaural Beats Work? Here Is What Science Has to Say

As humans who suffer from a multitude of disorders, we look for cures that work, so have we found healing in binaural beats?
 
Being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder among other things, I’ve tried many so-called solutions and medications to improve my quality of life. I also tried yoga, nature walks, prayer, and martial arts – you name it. Then I started to experiment with sound, mainly ambient music and things of that sort.
 
 
For a while, the sounds seemed to transport me to another place, soothing me and removing the husks of tension from my brain. But it would always come back, the anxiety, so I’m not sure what really works the best for me. Now, I’m researching binaural beats, in hopes that this will be the key to my healing. So, do binaural beats work?
Working with binaural beats
 
Many people back up the idea that binaural beats can relieve anxiety and pain. There are also those who put their faith in these sounds to correct cognitive issues, ADHD, and even mental trauma. There is such a large consensus of those that think binaural beats reduce headache pain, that Bayer, the manufacturer of aspirin, has seven files of binaural beats on its website in Austria.
 
Bayer’s statement is that it’s not necessarily used to stop headache pain, but to bring about relaxation which may help with headache pain. But all this talk about how well the beats work makes us want to understand exactly what binaural beats are.
What are binaural beats and how do they work?
 
To some, these sounds, or absences of sound, are illusions. In a way they are, but in truth, they do exist. They are beats created by opposite sounds being poured into each ear, thus the name “binaural”.
 
Here’s the basic concept: one ear hears a tone that is slightly different than the other ear. Just a few hertz difference, and your brain perceives a sort of beat that isn’t even present within the song or sound that you’re listening to. You cannot hear binaural beats with one ear. This is why it’s called an illusion.
 
What we do not know is which region generates the binaural beat sound – the sound that isn’t really there. While there are theories, it’s uncertain, and it’s also uncertain which tones and frequencieswork best for improvements.
When were binaural beats discovered?
 
In 1839, Heinrich Wilhelm Dove, a German physicist, discovered the concept of the binaural beat. However, much of what we understand about how binaural beats work only surfaced in 1973 in an article by Gerald Oster in Scientific American. Oster’s purpose was to use binaural beats in medicine, but its uncertain which area of medicine.
 
In modern times, these auditory illusions are seen as tools to improve mental wellbeing in conjunction with meditation, relaxation, and sleep – these among other mental exercises for mental health. They are also being used to alleviate pain as well. If proven to work, binaural beats could be the answer to a plethora of serious issues.
 
How these beats pertain to brain waves
 
Brain waves, or the activity of neurons, are oscillations that appear on an EEG. Two examples of brain waves are Alpha waves, which are responsible for relaxation, and Gamma waves which are responsible for attention or memory.
 
Those who stand behind the validity of binaural beats claim that these illusionary sounds can actually shift the brain waves from Gamma to Alpha or vice versa, moving you either into a state of rest or improvement of memory.
 
Most studies that focus on whether binaural beats work or not, unfortunately, are inconclusive in this area. However, as far as anxiety is concerned, there are consistent reports from those who suffered from disorders that binaural beats reduce levels of anxious feelings.
 
Studies concerning anxiety have proven to be the most promising for proving the effectiveness of binaural beats in improving life for the future. On more than one study, participants with anxiety reported being less anxious when listening to these sounds in the delta/theta range, and even more so, for longer periods in the delta range alone.
 
It’s not clear why this happens, regardless of the tests and studies on these non-sounds. While some patients reported a decrease in pain listening to beats around 10 hertz, in the alpha range, further research is needed to back up this claim.
 
Where children with ADHD are concerned, the tests show that binaural beats can improve focus for a temporary time, including during the tests themselves, but not for the long-term. There is still a bit of research that must be done in this area, including finding the right tone and frequency which seems to work after the initial effects of the study.
So do binaural beats work, according to science?
 
Joydeep Bhattacharya, professor of psychology at the University of London, states,
 
 
 
“A lot of big claims have been made without adequate verification.”
 
And he is right. While many people claim to experience an improvement in the quality of life, science hasn’t found the hard evidence it needs to produce a helpful system for the whole of society, and that’s really what we need. We can take Bhattacharya seriously due to his 20 years of study in the neuroscience of sound, which includes binaural beats, or as some are now calling auditory hallucinations.
 
Science has unearthed contradictions concerning binaural beats with different conditions. The studies to understand the localization of sound in order to treat anxiety, modulate cognition, and treat brain injuries, among other issues are, as of now, inconclusive.
 
The positive results, which point toward binaural beats being a significant cause for improvement in certain areas, are short-lived success stories. They are still without an idea of the definite region of the brain which is stimulated during these illusionary sounds. Also, most studies that produced positive results for helping anxiety or cognitive function did not use EEG measurements to do so.
 
Another factor in the study of binaural beats is tone. It seems the lower the tone and beat frequency, the more chance of positive results in this area. Each condition, each case and each level of frequency all play a part in whether binaural beats really work and improve conditions in our lives.

How should we take this information?
 
Whether or not science has conclusively proven the effectiveness of binaural beats, which apparently it hasn’t, it doesn’t stop us from trying them out. I might not suggest making a large investment in a program targeted completely toward these concepts. However, if you have a chance to listen to binaural beats, then sure, it’s worth that try.
 
As a sufferer of anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses that can prove almost impossible to endure, I’m not against trying new ways to improve my life. So, as for me, I just might try binaural beats for myself, just a few options here and there that I find. If I notice any difference, I will be sure to let you know. While I’m doing that, maybe science can conclusively let us know if binaural beats are the answer to many of our problems.

What Is Soul Travel? 4 Safe Methods and Techniques to Induce This State

What wouldn’t you give to travel without limits on any plane of existence? To feel your Soul become one with the universe? To be a shining beacon of Light? Soul travel requires only focus, high vibration frequencies and intentionality. With the right tools and techniques, you can live in a world with no borders and no limits.
 
What Is Soul Travel?
 
Let’s start with what it’s not. Soul Travel is often confused with Astral Projection, but the two are in fact very different. Astral Projection revolves around our Subtle Body, also called Astral Body or Energy Body. This is the vibrational refined refraction of our physical body, which connects the mind and the spirit.
 
In Astral Projection, the Subtle Body leaves the physical body and travels through the Astral Plane. However, you remain consciously and detachedly aware of your physical body. This can be achieved through lucid dreaming, mediation or even accidentally.
 
In Soul Travel, you travel with your Light Body. This body is more extensive than the Astral Body. It shines through it to encompass the Astral Body. As such, it is reached by attaining and maintaining a state of complete, unconditional Love.
 
By raising our vibrations through this state of Love, the Light Body reaches its highest refraction, the Rainbow Body. Now we find ourselves on the same frequency as the Source, the Universe, the Cosmos, the Creation. When we are open to Love, we can be anything and go anywhere.
 
In Soul Travel, we are not aware of our physical bodies, having reached the highest vibrations of ourselves. Being on the same frequency as the Source connects us with everything in the Universe, beyond time and place.
 
On this frequency, we are in all worlds and dimensions at once, so we don’t actually travel anywhere. We are already there and everywhere. As such, there is no need to be afraid of getting lost as we do not physically leave our bodies.
 
Some people do report a whooshing sound or a feeling of high speed when they Soul Travel. This is most likely the sensation resulting from two things:
  • Our Soul negotiating fixed states and conditions
  • Time and space adjusting to the Soul’s state of consciousness
  • Why It Is Important
 
The vital element of Soul Travel is understanding that, on this level, we work to uplift humanity. By fusing with the Source, we are empowered to take more responsibility for ourselves at all levels. Likewise, to use our natural gifts and abilities to raise the Earth’s vibration. We will often be guided via suggestion or intuition to where we need to be.
 
When Soul Travelling consciously or through meditation, we know we are where we need to be. In light of this, ask yourself and the Universe the following question when you arrive: Is there anything I need to heal, complete, receive or resolve here? Lean into Love, and you’ll know the answers.
 
How Can I Soul Travel?
 
The crucial element of Soul Travel is to know where you want to go. As you merge with the Source’s vibration frequency, focus on your destination to manifest it around you.
 
But how do you merge with the Source’s vibration frequency? As previously discussed, this is a path of Love. Only by embodying complete, unconditional Love on all levels can we raise our vibrations enough to become One.
 
There are a variety of techniques to achieve Soul Travel, each suited to different individuals and different personalities. Play around and experiment with them. Get creative with how you apply them to yourself. Most importantly, remain comfortable and avoid tension and struggle in your journey to Soul Travel.
 
Most techniques are based on visualisations and meditations. This is because intentionality and purpose are vital to Soul Travel. The aim is to fill yourself with such Love that it cannot be contained in your physical body.
 
4 Safe Methods and Techniques to Induce Soul Travel
 
Guiding Light
 
The Guiding Light is one such visualisation. Imagine yourself vibrating with so much Love, at such a high frequency, that you generate a warm, golden light, emanating from your Crown Chakra.
 
Visualise it passing down through your Chakras to your Root Chakra, activating and lighting them each in turn. Bring it back up through your Chakras. This time sparking such Love that they each start vibrating, then spinning.
 
As they continue spinning, the Love grows, and their Light shines further and further out until they become one Chakra of Light. Unconditional love continues to fuel this Light Chakra. As a result, it grows outwards, through all your bodies, towards the Source, which is everywhere. The culmination of its journey is your ecstasy.
 
Two Pyramids
 
Another visualisation method is the Two Pyramids. See yourself sitting inside a glowing, white pyramid. The base is resting on your hips and the tip projecting upwards. Add another pyramid, with the base at your heart and the tip pointing down into the Earth. Maintain this visualisation for a few normal breaths. When the sensation is stable and tangible, exhale powerfully from your stomach.
 
Then visualise a golden orb growing to encircle both pyramids. Exhale into this field around you, and maintain it steadily with all your senses. When you can sense all three elements without strain, set them spinning clockwise, first the pyramids, then the orb. Breathe with the physical sensations and the increasing frequency. Guide this Love to all the internal spaces that need healing and affirmation, and to others in your life.
 
Spiritual Eye
 
A more focused visualisation involves the Spiritual Eye. Close your eyes and focus your intention on your Third Eye, between your eyebrows. Whether through vocalisation, breathwork or meditation, let Love fill your mind, body and heart.
 
Now visualise your spiritual Guide in your Third Eye. Vocalise the following intention: I give you permission to take me to the best place for my spiritual good.
 
Use the same technique as you used to channel Love to visualise yourself somewhere familiar. Practice regularly and frequently. Consequently, you’ll find yourself in your mental picture, or somewhere else entirely!
 
Daily Practice
 
It’s a good idea to practice specific mental exercises throughout the day. As a result, you’ll build up an awareness of the different planes and of your movement through them.
 
One good practice is to regularly ask yourself if you are dreaming and check for indications of reality. Eventually, you’ll ask yourself this question in dreams as well. In fact, the minute you become aware that you are dreaming you enter a lucid dream state. This is a feature of the Astral Body and a stepping stone to the Light Body.
 
Another way to practice moving through planes is to regularly visualise a scene from your past. However, change some detail of the movement. If the wind was blowing, make the weather still. If people were sitting, make them run.
 
Final Thoughts
 
Keep practising, in tandem with meditations, visualisations and remembering to keep your vibrations high. With any luck, you’ll eventually find yourself somewhere else!

Wim Hoff Breathing Method or How to Control Your Body’s Responses

Can the simple act of breathing actually have some incredibly powerful benefits you never knew of? If the Wim Hoff breathing method is something you haven’t heard of before, you’re about to learn all about it.
 
Most people are familiar with certain breathing techniques, especially with yoga and meditation. Wim Hoff is a more intense breathing method that can have some tremendous health benefits.
 
 
Many people are shallow breathers meaning they are not truly oxygenating their body and cells. With this style of breathing, you open up your body to the enhanced benefits that deep breathwork can provide.
 
What Is The Wim Hoff Breathing Method?
 
We mentioned how many people are shallow breathers and this doesn’t help manage all the stress that can impact the body. This can throw off the body’s chemistry and lead to potential issues.
 
Shallow breathing deregulates the body as far as stress is concerned and the Wim Hoff method of breathing helps to combat this. This is a form of deep breathing that helps us to avoid the issues that come from shallow, stressful breathing.
 
We’re trying to hijack the stress response by doing this deep breathing. Deep breathing produces a ‘hypometabolic’ state that controls your mental and autonomic arousal so they don’t become too stimulated.
 
This method of breathing helps create a resting, restorative state that combats anxiety and stress. It basically triggers relaxation in the body.
 
Who Is Wim Hoff?
 
You might have thought that the Wim Hoff method of breathing was a title, but Wim Hoff is actually a man. You might have seen or read about him before. He’s a man in his 60s that regularly runs marathons – barefoot. You may also have seen him running shirtless throughout the Arctic Circle.
 
He has dove under the ice in the North Pole and regularly takes ice baths that last up to 90 minutes. He was once able to swim 57 meters under the ice! And if all that doesn’t sound impressive, he once went 23,000 feet up Mount Everest in only shorts and shoes…
 
Hoff says that he can accomplish this because of his unique breathing method. He has the endurance to outlast people half his age and seems immune to inhospitable conditions.
 
 
He believes in the profound connection between mind and body. His approach is like that used by yoga and his goal for himself and others is to take control of one’s physiology.
 
How Does The Wim Hoff Breathing Method Work?
 
Here is the basic breakdown:
  1. Sitting in a comfortable position (while at home in a quiet spot like on the sofa, or in the bath), you will take 30 quick breaths. These are quick but deep breaths where you inhale through your nose and exhale out of your mouth.
  2. Then, you will take a deep breath and exhale where you will then hold it until you need to breathe in again.
  3. Next, inhale as deep as you can, hold it for ten seconds, then exhale.
  4. That is one full round, and you can repeat this for multiple rounds if you feel like it.
 
There needs to be a focus on the belly, chest, and head when breathing this way. The deep breath should extend out the belly, fill the lungs and then the head. It’s a rhythm that may take a while to master but it involves incorporating in the whole body.
Why Is Breathing This Way So Beneficial?
 
 
A big focus of the Wim Hoff method is breathing through your nose and out of your mouth. You may remember this from gym classes or sports where coaches would often say “in through the nose, out through the mouth”.
 
This is important as your sinuses are embedded with a compound called nitric oxide. It is stimulated by breathing through the nose and can spread through the body. Nitric oxide can better oxygenate the tissues and lungs, leading to better physical output and performance.
 
This may be one of the big reasons that make the Wim Hoff breathing method so successful. It’s important to breathe through the nose as this produces warm, moist air that helps in the physical benefits and can lower stress levels. When you breathe through the mouth, it creates cold dry air that can raise stress hormone levels.
 
 
Make it a point to focus on breathing through your nose as you go through various activities each day. You’d be surprised to find how often you may hold your breath, especially during stressful times – both physical and mental.
 
When you’re walking upstairs, carrying objects, or trying to focus on something, focus on breathing in through your nose.
What Benefits Can You Experience?
 
You may feel light-headed the first time, and the whole sensation might be a bit strange at first. Often this is because people rarely breathe deeply the way they are supposed to.
 
Years of shallow breathing have made us forget what it’s like to deeply oxygenate the lungs and body. Therefore, it’s important to be relaxed, comfortable, and even lying down when breathing this way.
 
These sensations are also you getting more in tune with your body. Hoff says that you need to focus on each breath and follow the flow of it. This breathing method can have the ability to:
  1. increase your energy
  2. boost the immune system
  3. lower stress
  4. increase endurance
  5. improve strength
 
Wim Hoff claims this breathing method is a way to stimulate adrenaline but also control it. This helps train it to work for you and not against you as adrenaline is spiked when stress goes up.
 
This is your fight-or-flight mechanism kicking in. A little of it is ok because it’s there for survival. But when it’s constantly elevated because of daily stress, it can lead to some chronic conditions including:
  1. Cardiovascular disease
  2. IBS
  3. Heart disease
  4. High blood pressure
  5. Heart attacks and stroke
  6. Final Thoughts
 
You can now see that the Wim Hoff breathing method is extreme but exciting. It is important for teaching you how to properly breathe again and also how to get your mind and body in tune.
 
It may be something you want to work up to at first though. Start with periods of deep breathing in through the nose to get your body familiar with it. Breathing seems like something we shouldn’t have to focus on, but paying attention to it can provide you with some tremendous health and wellness benefits.

Do you have a favorite color? Do you realize that color can reveal aspects of your personality?
Take a look at your wardrobe. Is it full of one particular color? Do you gravitate to one or two colors and never wear certain shades?
Colors have a strong psychological effect on our minds and can influence those around us. But what can your favorite color tell you about your personality? If you have a preference for one particular color, then you might be revealing more than you know:

Personality and Color

RED

Red symbolizes the blood, the very essence of life. As such, if you love the color red, you are optimistic, you love life and live it to the full. You are ambitious, intense, strong-willed and energetic.
You can be competitive and will work hard to reach your goals. You love to be the center of attention and are the alphas of this world. Those that love the color red like to lead from the front. However, you can be dogged and aggressive in your pursuits.

ORANGE

Orange is a very social color but one associated with youth. You could say that this color is a free spirit that is also the life and soul of the party.
You love to bring people together, but taking responsibility is not your forte. You’d rather leave that to the grown-ups. You are gregarious and don’t have a bad bone in you. Non-judgemental, you like people until they give you a reason not to.

YELLOW

Yellow is the color of sunshine and suggests optimism and warmth. People who like this color are also critical thinkers. This is because the logical left side of the brain responds to the color yellow.
As a result, if you love yellow, you will also be good at solving problems. The color yellow is all about knowledge and learning. But not only gathering new information but being able to communicate this information onto others.
You are an independent person that tends to have a few very close friends.

PINK

Pink is the color of romance. Just think of Marilyn Monroe in that scene ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend’ when she wore that stunning pink dress.
Pink is a genuinely feminine color and represents the feminine aspects of one’s personality. It is gentle and innocent and those that favor it seek affection, love, acceptance and kindness.
It has a childlike quality to it which indicates a need for protection. This color represents the true romantics who believe in unconditional and uncomplicated love.

PURPLE

The color purple is associated with spirituality, wealth and royalty, but if it is your favorite color, it is an indication of creativity. You are a unique individual that dances to the beat of your own drum.
You are unconventional and don’t care what others think. You can be highly opinionated and believe in the welfare of others.
Often those who like this color are involved in humanitarian causes because it is associated with a more mature personality and a higher spiritual understanding. However, be careful not to come across as holier than thou.

BLUE

There’s a reason why uniforms are often in blue and that is because blue is a harmonious color associated with tradition and order. If you like this color, then you prefer stability and organized life. You don’t like surprises and tend to plan things in advance.
You also have strong principles that are unlikely to change throughout your life. You live a conservative lifestyle and like things to be neat and tidy. You are not the rebels in society, you are more likely to be those upholding the law, rather than breaking it.

GREEN

Green is the color of nature and if is your favorite color, then you are unlikely to live in the middle of the city. You need space around you. You value your friends and family as love is important to you.
You are loyal. Once you have made a friend, you will have them for life. Green signifies growth, life, balance and energy.
You are able to see the bigger picture and balance your life between work and leisure, family and friends. You are fair and just and as a result, people come to you for advice.

BROWN

This is a dependable color that is reliable and down-to-earth. If you have a friend that wears a lot of brown, then they are supportive and won’t let you down. They are serious and you can depend on them. Browns like the simple life and are not extravagant.

BLACK

Many people choose black as their ‘go to’ color as it is fairly neutral. But if it is your favorite color, then it means different things. In younger people, it is a sign of rebellion.
For older women, it shows a level of sophistication. Some people wear black to hide when they don’t want to be noticed. It is also considered to be a sexual color.

WHITE

White is a difficult color to wear. As such, those who do prefer it tend to like an organized life, devoid of clutter and mess. They have high standards and won’t compromise. They are also confident in their abilities. When you wear white you cannot hide any imperfections.

GREY

There are many theories as to why we dream, but dreams about animals are particularly interesting.
We use animals in our everyday lives to describe certain aspects of human behaviour. For example, we ‘horse’ around with our friends when we have fun, we call a person a ‘snake’ if we don’t trust them, and someone is a ‘rat’ if they talk behind our backs.

Therefore, animals can symbolise parts of our personality.

And as we all know, dreams are packed full of symbols and hidden meanings. So whenever you dream about an animal, you can be sure that it relates to a personal aspect in your life.
Before we look at the different type of animals in dreams, it is worth remembering that the situation in which you find yourself with the animal is also important.
  • Domesticated animals in your dream suggest you are aware of your responsibilities but find them overwhelming at times.
  • Wild animals are an indication to express yourself in a more liberating fashion.

8 CBT Techniques for Anxiety That Will Calm Your Anxious Mind.

If you’re reading this, it stands to reason that you are feeling anxious and are looking for tools such as CBT techniques to calm your anxiety.
 
 
Anxiety is a particularly devious beast.
 
 
It’s there for a reason, to give us the necessary fight or flight tools we need to survive. But if it gets out of control, it can restrict our lives and cause us more harm than good.
 
 
The problem with anxiety is that it easily escalates. Fear breeds fear. The more we worry something bad will happen, the more we convince ourselves it is likely to happen. We have set ourselves up to fail before we’ve even started.
 
We might start avoiding certain situations. However, although we may feel immediate relief by avoidance, we never learn that whatever we are afraid of isn’t actually that bad.
 
But you know what? When you are in the grip of a phobia, stuck in a repeating cycle of OCD, or suffering from social anxiety, it’s hard to be rational. And this is where cognitive behavioural therapy or CBT techniquescan help, no matter what type of anxiety you are experiencing.

FDR was right on the money about fear, but how can CBT techniques help us when we are crippled by anxiety?
8 CBT techniques for anxiety that will calm an anxious mind:
Our thoughts make us anxious
 
 
 
The first thing to recognise about anxiety is that external factors are not making you anxious, your internal thoughts are. And if your inner thoughts are causing the problem, you can change the way you think about the situation.
 
Of course, this isn’t easy. We trust our brains to deliver the right information quickly so we can go about our business. So it can be hard to realise that our thoughts are giving us the wrong messages.
 
The first step in CBT therapy is understanding how our thoughts are responsible for the way we feel. There is nothing in everyday normal life to feel anxious about. The only thing that is making you anxious is you. But, you can change that.
Thoughts can’t hurt you
 
 
 
You’re having a panic attack and you feel as you’re going to die. In a social situation, a person with social anxiety might think they’re going to collapse. Someone with OCD might feel so stressed about checking or counting they feel physically sick.
 
 
How do we get to such extreme physical symptoms from a single thought? Because we’ve programmed ourselves to have an automatic reaction to the stressful situation. Our thoughts tumble out of our minds with no chance of stopping and escalate into a full-blown panic attack.
 
But think – thoughts cannot hurt you. Look around you now. Focus on a book or a lamp and say to yourself “Oh my God if I look at that book, I’ll faint.” No amount of you thinking it will make it happen.
 
The next time you feel anxious, remember: just because you think it, it doesn’t mean you can make it happen.
Don’t set yourself up to fail
 
 
 
What’s the difference between a person with driving phobia and someone who drives without anxiety? The person who drives normally doesn’t think about driving before they set off.
 
Someone with the driving phobia will already be worrying about the journey, what will happen, what could go wrong, will they get lost, have an accident, or will they have a panic attack?
 
 
Now think about the driver who didn’t have anxiety. What do you think would happen if he or she started thinking the same thoughts as the anxious driver?
 
The chances are that the once confident driver could now start to feel a little anxious about driving. But the roads haven’t changed, nor has the car they are driving. Only their thoughts. Don’t forget, your thoughts are responsible, not external factors.
 
 
Be rational and logical
 
 
Time to think like Spock. When you are in a stressful situation, your mind starts racing and is out of control. The best way to stop this is to take a step back and think rationally. It helps if you look at the situation from another perspective or another person’s point of view.
 
Let’s take that driving example again. For every worrying thought that crops up, look at it in a rational manner as if you were talking to a friend.
 
What if you did get lost? Do you have a sat nav or a map? What if you do break down? Do you have breakdown cover? Identify what you feel is dangerous about the situation and look at it calmly and rationally.
 
 
Ask yourself ‘What’s the worst that could happen?’
 
 
What for you is the worst thing that could happen? If you get anxious during interviews, what do you fear the most?
 
Not being able to answer a question? Do you feel trapped in a social situation that you can’t escape from? Are you worried you’ll have a panic attack on an aeroplane?
 
 
Identify your worst fear and then examine it logically. No one has died from a panic attack. Panic attacks end. Yes, they are extremely horrible, but you are safe, you are not in danger.
 
Talk to yourself and reassure yourself about the thing you are most afraid of. By analysing them in a logical way, you take their power away.
 
 
Start taking small steps
 
 
So, you know that your thoughts are making you anxious and that they cannot hurt you. The next way to beat your anxiety with CBT techniques is to start taking small steps that will build up your confidence in the situation you find stressful.
 
The best way to tackle this is to make a ladder with the small steps at the bottom that cause you some anxiety but you can do, and goals at the top that cause you extreme anxiety and you cannot do.
 
The way to work through the ladder is to start at the bottom and go through each step until you are bored with it. Only then do you move onto the next step. Most importantly, reward yourself after each step to reinforce a positive emotion with your success.
 
 
Be patient and kind to yourself
 
 
If you have suffered from a phobia or anxiety for years or decades, remember that these CBT techniques won’t work overnight. Your brain has been programmed to feel anxiety.
 
You have learned over the years that a certain situation is dangerous. Now your brain has to unlearn all the lessons you gave it. This takes time, patience and endurance.
 
 
Remember, you may have setbacks as well as good weeks. Don’t expect your progress to be without a few bumps here and there. But reward any small victories and don’t downplay your successes.
 
Remember, what’s easy for some is really hard for you. It is also very easy to slip into a ‘Why me?’ way of thinking but this doesn’t help in the long run. Of course, lots of people have got it easier than you, but equally, a lot more have it much harder.
 
 
 
If all else fails, act normal
 
 
It helps to remember that anxiety is a natural response to stress. As a result, adrenalin rushes through our bodies preparing us to fight or flight. Blood is drawn away from areas such as the stomach (we don’t need to digest food in an emergency situation) and directed to the legs and arms for running or fighting.
 
One way to train our brains that anxiety is an incorrect response is to do something that lets the brain know adrenalin is not required.
 
For example, I remember being in the middle of a panic attack and my friend said something ridiculous which made me laugh. All the anxiety dissipated because my laughter informed my brain there was nothing to be afraid of.
 
It is hard to stop being frightened, but try having open body posture, smiling, talking calmly, and breathing slowly. Even chewing a piece of gum will help as it redirects blood back to the stomach.
 
Being in the grip of an anxious episode is extremely frightening. However, remember that you are in control of your thoughts, and by using these CBT techniques, it is possible to calm your anxiety.

Have you ever wondered why you get wrinkled fingertips if you are in water for long periods of time?

It’s actually a neat evolutionary quirk, developed over time, designed to enable us to survive. So how does it work? Why do we get wrinkled fingertips? Not only that, but why is it only our fingertips and not other parts of our body that wrinkle?

Why we get wrinkled fingertips in water

Imagine the treads on a racing car’s tyres. In dry weather, drivers use smooth treads because these will have a better grip on the road. However, on a wet track, drivers will change their tyres and opt for ones with deep treads.
The treads in these tyres channel water away from the surface area which allows the tyres to grip the road more efficiently. The same is true when we get wrinkled fingertips. If we have been in the water for a long time, we need ‘treads’ in our fingertips to be able to grip a slippery surface in order to be able to escape.
So, is this a reflex action or is something more sophisticated going on? Actually, there are specific nerves in our fingertips. These nerves send messages to the brain after a certain time in the water. Our brain then sends back messages to the surface of our skin and this accounts for our wrinkled fingertips.

  1. The Life or Death reason for sighing

Have you ever felt so exasperated at a situation that you’ve sighed heavily? You might just have saved your own life. Sighing isn’t just about releasing tension or pent-up frustration. It is crucial to maintaining lung function.
Our lungs are made up of tiny balloon-like air sacs called alveoli. These alveoli inflate and deflate every time we take a breath. Oxygen enters the alveoli and carbon dioxide leaves via the bloodstream. However, every so often individual alveoli collapse.
“When alveoli collapse, they compromise the ability of the lung to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide,” Jack Feldman said. “The only way to pop them open again is to sigh, which brings in twice the volume of a normal breath. If you don’t sigh, your lungs will fail over time.”
A sigh is an involuntary deep breath that expands these collapsed alveoli and pumps them back up to full capacity again. Without this built-in mechanism, these tiny air sacs would gradually collapse leading to lung failure.
  1. Shaking your head means I’m full up

Body language is a fascinating area of study. For example, why do we shake our head to say no and nod to say yes? Well, scientists have the answer to one of these questions. And, when you think about it, it makes perfect sense.
Despite the shake of the head indicating one of human’s most recognised gestures, no one really knew its origins. Until now. The key is to look at babies. When babies are full up, they don’t have the necessary language skills to express that they don’t want any more food.
Babies turn their heads from side to side to avoid the next mouthful of food they do not want. This rejection of food at an early age has come to signify ‘no’ in all other aspects of our adult lives.
  1. Why we stick our tongues out when we concentrate

You often see children so intently focused on a task that they stick their tongues out. But why does help with their concentrationIt makes more sense if we think about what the tongue is responsible for.
It has thousands of taste buds that work to identify millions of combinations of flavours. More importantly, however, it is always moving around the mouth, keeping us from choking and helping to swallow the build-up of saliva.
The tongue is also responsible for formulating language. It is a huge muscle that changes shape to form the sounds of letters and as such, is connected to the brain’s language centre.
This means it is constantly sending huge streams information to many different areas of the brain simultaneously. By sticking it out and holding it in place by biting it, we are restricting its movement.
By keeping it still for a moment, we are able to calm this constant stream and free up our brains to focus on just one activity at a time.
  1. Your speech reflects your environment

Can our environment have an effect on the way we speak? According to one theory, it can. The ‘acoustic adaptation’ speculates that the region you were raised in has a direct effect on your speech. And it is all to do with how sound travels and how we hear it.
For example, take forest dwellers. Sound behaves differently in a forest compared to a vast desert. Consonants tend to get lost in dense forest so you only hear the vowels.
In hotter areas, pockets of hot air distort hard consonants. So languages evolve differently in hot and cold climates. Warmer climates tend to have softer vowels and use a lot of open syllables. Just think of Hawaii and ‘aloha’.
Whereas in more temperature climates, such as Germany, they hear fewer vowels sounds and, therefore, use harsher consonants for the endings of their words. For instance, ‘how are you?’ translates into German as ‘Wie geht es dir?‘
Wrinkled fingertips are just one evolutionary quirk humans have developed over the years. It just goes to show the incredible way our bodies adapt to master our environment.

We can all name some common mental disorders. For instance, depression, anxiety, OCD are just a few. But what about rare mental disorders?
 
 
The mind is a wonderful thing. After all, it’s what makes us human. It separates us from animals. But when it goes wrong, it can produce some horrifying symptoms. Here are 10 rare mental disorders you’ve probably never heard about. And probably don’t want to – for good reason.
10 Rare Mental Disorders
Aboulomania
 
 
 
If you find it hard to make decisions, spare a thought for people with aboulomania. They suffer from a crippling condition that makes it almost impossible for them to make a simple choice. So whether it is going shopping, picking what to wear, or what to have for dinner. They have a chronic inability to make a decision.
 
Apotemnophilia
 
 
 
Ever wanted to cut off part of your body? No, me neither. But those with apotemnophilia have a pathological desire to amputate a healthy limb such as a leg or arm.
 
Known as ‘body integrity identity disorder’, sufferers are driven to remove parts of their bodies. The desire can be so strong that some sufferers actually attempt to remove or irreparably damage their own limbs so that surgery is necessary.
Boanthropy
 
 
 
This is one of those very rare mental disorders, but nonetheless, it is extremely troubling for those who suffer from it. People with Boanthropy are convinced that they are cows. They will mimic a cow’s actions, such as eating grass and walking on all fours. They will mix with cows in fields but have no idea why or what they are doing.
 
No one really knows why people suffer from Boanthropy. However, there is an early reference to it in the Bible. King Nebuchadnezzar was a sufferer. He is described as being ‘driven from men and did eat grass as oxen.’
Celebriphilia
 
 
 
We’ve all had a celebrity crush at some point in our lives. But those with celebriphilia have more than a passing desire. They suffer from an overwhelmingly obsessive sexual desire for a celebrity. They can have romantic or purely erotic feelings. But the condition is all-consuming.
Cotard Delusion
 
 
 
Humans have a morbid curiosity when it comes to zombies and the undead. To the point where we can even suffer from a kind of zombie hell ourselves.
 
First described in 1880 by French neurologist Jules Cotard, sufferers believe they are the walking dead. People with Cotard Delusion think their bodies are rotting and decomposing.
 
Some are so convinced they are dead that they do not bother to eat or get up and eventually die. Luckily, this is probably one of our extremely rare mental disorders.
 
Ekbom Syndrome
 
 
 
People who have Ekbom syndrome think that their skin is infested with insects. Also known as delusional parasitosis, sufferers feel real itching and can scratch themselves to the point of bleeding.
 
They will often bring in what they believe to be a sample of the insect that is under their skin to show a doctor. They call in pest control as they believe their house is infested.
 
This syndrome is extremely difficult to cure and a multi-disciplined approach is best. For instance, as they believe they have a physical condition, it is best to have a physician and a psychiatrist on-board.
Factitious Disorder
 
 
 
No one likes being ill, but those with Factitious Disorder actually obsess about it. They intentionally make themselves ill. They will create illnesses and symptoms and tell lies to cover up the fact they are well.
 
This might involve going to different doctors or hospitals to keep their façade going. They will go to extreme lengths to prove they are ill. Even undergoing painful tests in order to keep the ruse believable.
 
 
Now, this is one of those rare mental disorders you might have heard of before. And you’d be right. Munchausen syndrome is no longer used by healthcare professionals.
Fregoli Delusion
 
 
 
Similar to Capgras Delusion, Fregoli Delusion is a belief that a stranger is posing as someone they know and love. People with Capgras Delusion think their loved ones have been replaced by an imposter.
 
However, those suffering from this delusion think the opposite. They believe a stranger is a friend or family member. They think these strangers are wearing sophisticated disguises to mislead them.
Genital Retraction Syndrome
 
 
 
The poor people that have this syndrome experience real pain alongside a deep-rooted fear. They are certain that in some point in the near future, their genitals will retract up into their stomach. Once this happens, they will never come down again and the person will die. This is mainly an Eastern belief that thankfully, is very rare.
Kluver-Bucy Syndrome
 
 
 
Have you ever felt an urge to have sex with a car? You would if you suffered from Kluver-Bucy Syndrome. This is one of our rarest of rare mental disorders, but it is very disturbing for those that have it.
 
Those with this syndrome experience inappropriate sexual behaviour which they cannot control. For example, they feel pleasure when they out inanimate objects in their mouths. They might also suffer from a kind of agnosia, in that, they find it hard to recognise familiar faces and/or objects. Experts believe this syndrome results from a brain injury to the temporal lobe. As such, there is no known cure.
 
These rare mental disorders just go to show that our minds are capable of producing the most bizarre symptoms. Because of this, they are extremely hard, not only to diagnose but to treat.
