Dark Forest Theory and the Creepy Reason Why We Haven’t Found Aliens ~ Janey Davies.

Dark Forest Theory

and the Creepy Reason Why We Haven’t Found Aliens.

By Janey Davies.

dark forest theory

There are many theories that try to explain why we haven’t made contact with aliens, but the Dark Forest Theory is the most terrifying of all.
It suggests the reason why we haven’t heard from aliens is that they are deliberately keeping quiet.

The Search for Alien Life
The search for extra-terrestrial life captivates human beings. We make films and write books about it. We spend billions of dollars on equipment designed to listen and emit signals into the depths of the universe.
But as of yet, outer space has remained resolutely silent. But how is this possible? In the observable universe alone there are approximately 10 billion galaxies. Within each one of these galaxies are around100 billion stars, just like our own sun.
Even according to esteemed astronomer Frank Drake, it is inconceivable that aliens have not made contact yet. The Drake Equation estimates that there should be around 20 alien civilisations close enough to Earth to have been detected.
So why haven’t we found alien life if the odds are so stacked for there being life in the universe? More to the point, why is the Dark Forest Theory so scary?
Astronomer Martin Dominik alludes to the theory in an interview with The Times. He is discussing the plan by the US to broadcast a powerful radio message to a nearby star:
“Maybe,” he said, without humour, “they will come and eat us.”
But before we start fashioning ‘End of the World’ placards, let’s look at other theories why humans have not made contact with aliens.

3 Theories about Alien Existence

1. The Fermi Paradox

The Fermi Paradox is named after physicist, Enrico Fermi. It asks: ‘If there are billions of stars in billions of galaxies, then why haven’t we seen aliens?
There are reasonable explanations:
  • There is alien life on other planets but they haven’t got the technology to reach us yet.
  • They don’t want to visit us.
  • They have already been to Earth but at a time when humans were not on the planet.
  • Alien civilisations have only recently acquired the technology to travel through space.

2. Catch 22

For aliens to visit Earth, they have to live on another planet. However, life on other planets is extremely rare. Earth is truly a one-off, a miracle planet. It lies on the Goldilocks zone of just the right temperatures situated away from the sun.
In fact, it’s fair to say that the default state of the universe is a dead, silent, vacuum. It is totally devoid of any life. And this is where the Catch-22 comes in. For a planet to be habitable, it first has to become inhabited.
The reason for that is that the organisms that live on the planet change the atmosphere. Plants give off oxygen and take in carbon dioxide. Organisms do the opposite. You can’t have one without the other. Earth is the exception to the rule in the universe. That is why we haven’t encountered aliens – because there aren’t any.

3. We haven’t waited long enough

Human beings have been listening for and sending out signals for about 100 years. The universe itself is nearly 14 billion years old and extends 92 billion light years in diameter. We really are being incredibly impatient.
At present, we have listened to an area well under 1% of our galaxy alone. Actually, astrophysics experts from Cornell University advise it may well be 1,500 years before we have scanned enough of the Milky Way before we hear from extra-terrestrials.

The Dark Forest Theory

So why is the Dark Forest Theory so frightening? Because it suggests that there is alien life out there, but it is hostile. In fact, it is staying silent for a reason. The reason is this killer alien species wants to end human civilisation on Earth and take the planet for its own species.
If you think this is a storyline best suited for a Hollywood blockbuster, you only have to look back at our own history.
When explorers set foot on the new unchartered territory, they do not acclimatise themselves with the local people. In fact, if they consider themselves to be more civilised, they take over the land and the rights of the indigenous people.

Here are three reasons why experts believe in the Dark Forest Theory:

Survival of the fittest

All living creatures have an innate drive to live and to survive. Whether they are a human, animal, fish, bird, or alien. If one species cannot communicate effectively with another, and they don’t know their intentions, it is prudent to eliminate them first.
  • Limited resources in the universe
We already know the Earth is a rare planet in the universe. How many science-fiction moviesfeature plotlines where aliens attack because their planet is dying and they need our resources?
  • Other civilisations are keeping quiet to survive
Astronomer Dominik believes the reason we have not made contact with life in outer space is simple. The more advanced civilisations are hiding from hostile aliens.
Which begs the question, should we be trying to make contact if we don’t really know what’s out there? There are some astronomers that would prefer to keep a much lower profile and take the ‘wait and see’ approach.
However, the problem remains that just about anyone can send a message into space. In fact, in 2008, the manufacturers of Doritos blasted a 30-second advert towards Ursa Major.
What are your thoughts? Wait and see or shout loudly and hope someone visits?
“Some say (alien contact) is the greatest thing we should do. Some think we should be very quiet and this should be the last thing we should do — and it might indeed be the last thing we will do.”
– Dominik

What Is the Origin of the Universe? 7 Most Intriguing Theories ~ Sherrie.

What Is the Origin of the Universe?

7 Most Intriguing Theories.

By Sherrie.

July 1st, 2019

There are many theories of the origin of the universe. Some of these ideas are based on spiritual aspects while some are mind-bending, just as some ideas of our universe.

Have you ever wondered about the origin of the universe? Well, of course, most of you have. Although we’re small compared to the big picture, we thrive on learning more and more about where we came from. Thinking about the universe with its spectacular beauty leaves us dreaming of our origins beyond our imagination.

Just a few ideas about how it began

If you think you’ve heard it all, just take a pause. There are multitudes of theories which explain the origins of how we came into being within our universe. Many of these theories are strange and interesting, to say the least. While many are common theories we’ve heard before, all of them are intriguing. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

1. White holes

You may be familiar with black holes. Most people are. If not, here’s a breakdown. A black hole is the result of a star which has died, creating a hole which sucks in light and all other matter surrounding it. White holes work in the opposite manner. Instead of sucking matter in, they spit it out.
The white hole is an area of spacetime which cannot take any matter in from the outside, only spit it out. Meaning, a white hole could be the birth of a star or a multitude of them. Of course, this is just a hypothetical theory, created by the idea of relativity which is from the brain of Albert Einstein.

2. Big bang theory

One origin could explain, in simple terms, the beginning of the universe. The Big bang theory is a popular one, especially among those who do not believe in creationism. Basically, the big bang theory says the universe came from a singular solid mass.
At one instant, everything began to expand. Matter and energy flew throughout the blackness to create the universe. This left background radiation behind the expanding universe. In the 1920s, Edwin Hubble brought forth this theory of the expanding universe, hence the evolution of the Big bang theory.

3. Theory of slow freeze

So, what if the Big bang wasn’t the actual beginning, but just a part of the process? Well, with the slow freeze theory, that is very possible. In this theory, it seems the universe started in a cold and empty pre-existence.
The particles in this existence became so heavy while gravity weakened, thus warming by radiation coming from the heavier masses. The Big bang may not have been a big band at all, but a slow warming and expanding process producing stars, and then whole galaxies over billions of years.

4. Mirage of the black hole

black hole paradox
The universe may have strange origins, much like this one. Get ready to wrap your mind around this. Physicists suggested that our universe is simply a 3-dimensional sphere within a 4-dimensional universe. I guess you can say a universe inside another.
We never existed until a 4D star collapsed creating a 3D black hole, or an Event horizon. Material from the collapsed star formed a 3-dimensional membrane around the event horizon. Then expansion occurred within the membrane, hence the universe we know.

5. Plasma creation

The plasma theory focuses on electromagnetism. The basic idea is that some kind of electrical process created everything in the present universe. This includes stars, comets, and the sun. Many people believe what surrounds them are huge filaments of ions and electrons. Forces from electromagnetism warp the electrons and ions. This theory suggests that the universe has an infinite age and size.

6. No beginning/ no end

Otherwise known as the Steady state theory, the idea that the universe has no big bang or no marvelous creation, may be hard to swallow. However, this was the belief until the 1960s. Some still believe it.
There is a perfect cosmologic principle which states that the universe is the same no matter where you look. There is non-stop creation of matter that changes the density in the expanding universe. Since the universe is the same everywhere all the time, it has no beginning and no end.

7. Pulsating universe

dark energy universe
This theory is interesting as well. It’s concerning the expansion and retraction of the universe. This idea states that the universe is always expanding…until it stops. The pulsating theory states that at some time this expansion could stop and then retract.
The retraction may reach a certain size and then a huge explosion similar to the big bang occurs, hence starting the process all over again. This is why it’s called the pulsating theory.

What’s your theory?

So, how did it all begin? How did so many beautiful cosmic and heavenly sites come into being? Honestly, it’s a mystery. We do, however, have theories which help us understand how the birth of the universe may have occurred.
In earlier times, there were only two popular theories of how our existence began: the Big bang theory and the belief in celestial creation. In modern times, the Big bang theory is widely acknowledged. Although the big bang theory may be the most popular theory around, there are many more intriguing ideas, as you can see above.
So, what do you think? What is your theory of the origin of this vast universe?

3 Creepy Stephen Hawking’s Predictions about the Future of Humankind ~ Sherrie.

3 Creepy Stephen Hawking’s Predictions about the Future of Humankind.

By Sherrie.

April 16, 2019

There are some of Stephen Hawking’s predictions that none of us want to be around to see – from the apocalypse to aliens.
Several conspiracy theories have been placed in the very center of many of Stephen Hawking’s statements. Many of them were just noticed at the time before his death in 2018, but they have certainly got us talking! Hawking’s predictions took a number of forms.
Like, how there wasn’t such infinite darkness in black holes and that light could, in fact, escape in the event horizon – proving to upend psychics completely. He also said the world would be taken over by aliens – before it was destroyed altogetherUnless, of course, if AI was developed enough to save it!
Want to know more?

Stephen Hawking’s predictions and their impact on humankind

Hawking was a world-renowned scientist who dedicated his life to ground-breaking physics and theories. Hawking explains what happened in the Big Bang in a theory proposed just over a week before his death. This final work was submitted to the Journal of High-Energy Physics. This would shape the possibility of multiple universes existing right beside our own universe.
Already freaked out? Well, here are 3 more creepy predictions from Stephen Hawking that may have you running for the hills.

1. The reality of aliens

extraterrestrial life
One of many Hawking’s predictions that are pretty weird. But, the danger of aliens approaching and interacting with humans was one of Hawking’s common concerns. He was fascinated by extraterrestrial life.
Stephen Hawking’s 2010 documentary, Into the Universe, explains his beliefs. Hawking believed that if aliens are advanced enough to reach us, they may possibly be hostile.
Hawking’s peers do not share all his views, however. They argue that interstellar space travel alone is really difficult to do. Also, his peers believe that any beacons sent out for as long as radio transmissions leaked from our planet would have been heard and answered by now. So, obviously, wouldn’t they have found us by now?
So, perhaps we can hold fire on this prediction, even though Hawking himself strongly contests it!

2. AI: Yay or nay?

robot takeover stephen hawking's predictions
As AI permeates more of our daily lives, it is clear to see how it can make an impact. However, whilst many of us are busy embracing technology, another one of many Stephen Hawking’s predictions is based upon the overall fear of a robot takeover. His particular concern was the very distinct possibility of the potential power of modern advancing technology.
Hawking made a striking comment about artificial intelligence, saying it might just take over. He thinks technology is underestimated greatly. Although Hawking does think AI is a threat to humanity, he doesn’t have a timeline in mind for this disaster.
However, Hawking thinks it would be simple for the technology to operate aloneand even reinvent itself when needed, making it faster and more intelligent.
It seems that Hawking was torn between the benefits and drawbacks to AI technology. Here are a few of his quotes which show his true feelings and beliefs about such advancements.
“It wouldn’t take long before humans, with their slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete, and would be superseded,” he said.
“The potential benefits of creating intelligence are huge,”
“Every aspect of our lives will be transformed.”
-Hawking, The Guardian
Then on Reddit, Hawking warned us about who would benefit the most during this advancement:
“If machines produce everything we need, the outcome will depend on how things are distributed,” he said. “So far, the trend seems to be toward … technology driving ever-increasing inequality.”

3. Is it the end of the world?

mass extinctions
The next prediction from Hawking is about the asteroid strike. If other things don’t manage to kill us all, then maybe this will.
His main driving reason is that there are just too many of us on the earthand something has to balance the situation. Hawking was more than aware of how badly we are draining all our physical resources.
It’s alarming. And there are other issues as well including animal extinctions, melting ice caps, temperature rising, and deforestation. All these things could increase the earth’s temperature to 460°C (860°F) This is about the warmth of the planet Venus. This is if we don’t put a stop to gas emissions.
Therefore, Hawking’s theory is that there’s a severe risk of self-destructiondue to the destruction of our environment and climate change. He thinks it is this which will be our downfall and could cause the end of the world.

Other pearls of wisdom by Stephen Hawking

If that isn’t enough for you, here are a few further snippets of Stephen Hawking’s wisdom to provide some food for thought…
  • We want to know the meaning of the universe.
‘If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason – for then we would know the mind of God’
– A Brief History Of Time, published in 1988.
  • Maybe some of us want to understand why the world is not perfect
‘Without imperfection, you or I would not exist’
– In Into The Universe With Stephen Hawking, The Discovery Channel, 2010.
  • The magic question is: Are we alone in the universe?
‘I think it would be a disaster. The extraterrestrials would probably be far in advance of us. The history of advanced races meeting more primitive people on this planet is not very happy, and they were the same species. I think we should keep our heads low’
– In Naked Science: Alien Contact, The National Geographic Channel, 2004.
